This table was designed centuries ago to accompany Chinese artists and scholars on excursions into gardens, forests, and fields. It would have been used for painting sessions, poetry readings, picnics, and ancient drinking games known as yaji. The table was hand carved of cedar wood, a timber selected for its unique resilience to water and other natural elements. Cloaked in a rich patina, the low table has a beautifully scalloped apron, but the delicately curved folding-legs are what make the petite table truly unique.
