Crafted in the late 19th century, this Victorian letter opener is simple and elegant. The opener is comprised of a length of creme-colored ivory, carved with thin form and rounded ends. The end is embellished with fine silver metalwork, stamped with the hallmark of English silversmith Arthur Wilmore Pennington. The end is capped with silver filigree of foliate scrollwork and a thin silver snake that wraps around the ivory. With its minimalist form and delicate ornamentation, this antique letter opener is a fine addition a desk or study.
