Filled with burning coals, this 19th-century brass brazier once warmed the hands of a well-to-do person on a cold winter's night in northern China. The perforated lid is etched with a young man holding a string of coins and a mythical three-legged toad, a potent symbol of luck and prosperity. Known as the Jin Chan, or Money Toad, this mythical amphibian is the animal companion of Daoist immortal Liu Hai and has the ability to spit gold coins. A keepsake from a bygone era, this fine brazier retains a quiet elegance and looks lovely accenting a bookcase or console table.
