This two-drawer side table is crafted of oak in the French Provincial style, blending the refined elegance of classical French furniture with the timeless simplicity of country furnishings. Dated to the late-18th century, the table reflects a transition from the ornate flourishes of Louis XV wares to the straightened forms of the Louis XVI period (1774-1792).

The side table consists of two shallow drawers raised upon thin, tapered legs with flat sides and fluted carvings. The tabletop is shaped with a thumbnail edge and a curvilinear form mirrored by the subtle curvature of the drawer fronts. Each drawer is fitted with a central keyhole and two ring-form drop handles with backplates shaped to botanical and ribbon motifs. Today, this lightweight table is a delightful addition to modern interiors as an end table or nightstand.

Current handles are possibly replacement.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
