This tall-back bamboo armchair is designed after the traditional 'southern official's hat chair,' defined by high rectangular backs, shortened arm railings, and no protruding crest rail. The chair is crafted of bamboo that has been carefully steamed and bent into curving forms and bound with thin strips of leather. The back and sides are patterned with short lengths of bamboo arranged in a lattice-like geometric design. A woven rattan seat adds comfort and enhances the chair's rustic style.

Deaccessioned from the MacLean Collection of Asian Art.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
