This petite ceramic jar dates to the mid-19th century and was once used for storing food or condiments in a Qing-dynasty kitchen. The jar has high shoulders that extend past the tapered lower half, a form similar to a covered rice bowl. A glossy, pale glaze cloaks the exterior beautifully, textured by pitted wear and subtle ridges that pattern the sides.
