Dated to the early 20th century, this pair of two-drawer collector's shelves is seamlessly constructed with clean lines and open sides. Rounded edges soften the angular frame and reference the bent bamboo furniture of earlier dynasties. Once the centerpiece of a scholar’s studio, these open shelves were ideal for displaying stacks of books, scholars' rocks, precious antiques, and other scholarly implements. The pair has been recently refinished to a dark brown and fitted with new brass hardware. With streamlined sophistication, the timeless design holds its own in a contemporary office or living room.
