With no stretchers or spandrels to interrupt its clean lines, this 19th-century sword table forms one beautiful, continuous ribbon. The low, plank-top table was constructed of Chinese walnut (hetao) using concealed mortise-and-tenon joinery for a seamless silhouette. Placed atop a kang platform, this minimal table form was used as a study desk or a resting place for one's sword or musical instrument. The table's original black lacquer finish has aged beautifully over the years, resulting in softened edges and a fantastic crackled texture.
