This unusual lacquered stool is a 19th-century barber's stool designed to be carried from place to place for roadside haircuts. Crafted with traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, the stool has a splayed-leg frame with enclosed sides, an elongated seat, and four small drawers for storing tools, money and accessories. The narrow seat hangs well past the sides for a dramatic silhouette and features a brass coin slot for accepting payment from customers. Years of use have imparted a rich patina to the black lacquer finish and timeworn wear to the teardrop brass pulls.
