Although crafted in the early 19th century, this monumental storage coffer from Shaanxi province has a timeless design that blends effortlessly into any interior. The cabinet has a simple, rectangular silhouette with squared corners, straight legs, and minimal ornamentation. Decorative ridges carved into the frame mimic the stacked construction of bamboo furniture, a motif sometimes referred to as "incense stick bundles." The ridged pattern surrounds six shallow drawers and two pairs of doors that open to a spacious interior compartment. The walnut cabinet is finished with a thin layer of dark brown lacquer, now softened from time for a beautifully aged texture. With clean lines and balanced proportions, this coffer anchors its surroundings as a sideboard or buffet.
