This hand-carved stone statue depicts a fearsome Chinese warrior or general, clad in armor with a chest plate and fu dog sleeves. He stands atop a reclining fu dog, or shizi, a posture that symbolizes dominion over the universe. The fu dog is simply carved, with most detail given to its wide grin and curly mane. The warrior figure holds his hands outwards as though holding a weapon or banner. Reminiscent of the life-size burial figures that guarded important Chinese tombs, this stone warrior makes for a watchful protector of the home or garden.
