Cracked Ice Meditation Stone Table

This stone top table exemplifies Organic Modern style with an emphasis on natural materials. The irregular appearance and pale coloring of the stone slab top evokes the complexities of nature, reminiscent of a sun-bleached seashell or the cracked ice of a frozen lake. Currents of light green, periwinkle and black mineral inclusions flow through the marbled white stone, enlivening the neutral field with soft color.

Unearthed in Jiangsu province, the stone slab top has been polished to a smooth surface and is elevated by a reclaimed wood base for use as a coffee table. The two wooden legs were crafted by a local Chicago artisan, each hand-turned of solid mulberry to a spherical form. The rounded contours showcase the natural beauty of the wood, which boasts a subtle, golden color and striations of light and dark inherent to the grain.

This sculptural table consists of three separate pieces that must be assembled together when installed. The stone slab is not affixed to the wooden legs and simply rests on top. The slab weighs approximately 200 lbs.
