Snuff, a mixture of powdered tobacco, herbs, and spices, was introduced to China by Western diplomats in the 17th century. The opportunity for ranking members of Chinese society to customize their snuff bottles made them favorite collectibles. Finely wrought out of copper, this example shows a unique vibrancy in our collection. While many snuff bottles focused on carvings and natural coloration, this enameled scene of young boys playing in a field is a full work of art in miniature. The bands of copper that peek through the enamel frame the scene and offer a touch of stately, natural color.

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
