Woven River Basket

Centuries ago, a woven reed fisherman’s basket such as this would have been common in rural China as an everyday item, used until it became worn through. This hand-woven example remains in beautiful condition and features a tapered woven body secured to a round wooden rim. Antique iron repairs to the wooden rim impart fantastic character and reveal the care taken to preserve the basket over the years. Left unfinished, the basket blends into neutral interiors with matte texture and pale, light brown color.
