"Flower" by Ren Hui

In this exquisite woodcut, Ren Hui celebrates the beauty of nature using a style that he calls “uncomplicated and honest.” Entitled "Flower," this beautifully patterned composition was created by carving out small notches into wood, each white mark set in contrast to the painted black background. Embracing the disorderly balance of the natural world, the artist attempts to convey the complexities tucked within a single flower by casting its image in a network of mark, points, and dots.
