This early 20th-century jar was hand-sculpted in southern China and decorated with lion dogs and pine trees, symbols of strength and longevity. It was intended as a pickling container, used to preserve many eggs in a particular preparation. Glazed inside and out, the jar could have also been used to store water, rice, and other foods. Today, this monumental vessel makes for a fantastic planter, perfect for a young sapling or a display of lush greenery.
