This 19th-century stool from China's Shanxi province charms with its top-heavy form and fantastic wabi-sabi texture. As evidenced by blade marks on the thick top surface, this stool originally doubled as a chopping block for fruits and vegetables. The full moon round top showcases the expressive wood grain of northern elm (yumu) and is supported by four splayed legs linked with straight stretchers. With unusual form and well-worn finish, this three-legged stool is the perfect rustic accent to a modern kitchen or living room.
