Although eyes were certainly drawn to the elaborate hairstyles worn by well-to-do women of the Qing-dynasty, it was the finishing touch of a hairpin or ornament that completed the look. This 19th-century hair accessory is carved of a continuous piece of pale green jadeite, shaped by hand to a thin, curved form. The jade hairpin tapers to a point at either end and is carved on one side with round shou (壽) medallions, the auspicious character for longevity.

Years ago, this delicate jade carving must have broken in two and was lovingly reassembled with two antique brass repairs. Rich with character, this jade pin lives on as a beautiful object and a fantastic keepsake of the past.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
