This elegant vase by Ando Cloisonné Company is finely decorated in the cloisonné manner with translucent enamels and silver accents. The globular vase is cloaked in glassy, turquoise-green color and decorated with a spray of roses, enameled by hand to achieve soft lines and delicate shading.

Crème-white roses adorn one side of the vase, shaded in a subtle gradation of red, orange and yellow enamels. The floral vignette is outlined in fine lines drawn of thin metal wire, so subtle as to appear painted with watercolor pigments. The outer rose petals and leafy stems are shaded in a wash of cool tones, blending into the surrounding green field as though floating in a pool of water.

Founded by Andō Jubei in the late 19th century, Ando Cloisonné Company is a historic Japanese cloisonné studio based in Sakae, Nagoya that began as an Edo-period tobacco pipe shop. A leader of Japanese cloisonné throughout the 20th century, the studio was renowned for its technological advancements that brought innovative new designs to a traditional craft.

Ando monogram mark stamped on silver foot rim. Includes the original wood box.
