Crafted of fine rosewood, this early 20th-century footed headrest was once used by an upper-class woman in lieu of a pillow. Gently curving to support her head and neck at rest, the headrest also helped to preserve her intricate hairstyle. This particular headrest is fitted with a petite drawer, used to store precious keepsakes while one slept. Since the drawer only opens when the headrest is upright on its side, the owner could rest easy knowing her valuables were safe.
