Perfectly proportioned, this low table is a quintessential example of classical Chinese furniture design. The table dates to the mid-19th century and is crafted of northern elm (yumu) with mortise-and-tenon joinery, without the use of nails and screws. Subtly splayed legs provide stability and the rectangular top features a central floating panel, allowing the wood to expand and contract with the seasons. Minimally decorated, the table's timeless silhouette recalls Ming-dynasty forms, featuring inset, round legs, straight double stretchers, and simply shaped spandrels. With neutral light brown color and an antique patina, the table is ideal today as a storied coffee table.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
