With straight legs and a square profile, this simple game table was once used for round upon round of mahjong, a popular Chinese game invented during the Qing dynasty. Constructed with traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery techniques, the card table was elegantly designed with a waisted apron, hoof feet, and four small drawers for storing mahjong playing tiles. Traces of the table's original brilliant red lacquer finish are still visible along its side, adding fantastic texture and character to its versatile form.
