Set beside the four treasures of the scholars' desk, this naturally-formed stone brush washer would have been used by a Qing-dynasty scholar to rinse the ink from his calligraphy brush. Made of jasper, the vessel’s gnarled shape showcases the stone’s speckled appearance. Such novelties inspired scholars who surrounded themselves with objects derived from nature’s most curious forms. A wooden frame custom made to the vessel’s curves elevates this practical object to a work of art.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
