This cabinet, comprised of two petite 19th-century chests from China's Shanxi province, is incredibly modern in terms of its versatility and can be used in multiple configurations. The original lacquer and painting has mellowed beautifully over time. The doors were hand-painted with an abstract pattern that forms into billowing clouds and rising phoenixes - symbols of good fortune that appear only in times of prosperity and peace.
