This rustic four-door coffer from the early 20th century balances modern simplicity with humble, timeworn materials. Attributed to artisans of Xinjiang province in Western China, the sideboard is crafted of pine with mortise-and-tenon joinery and richly textured with folk art carvings.

The cabinet was originally used as a kang daybed, and has been modified into a shallow coffer with front-facing doors by our carpenters skilled in traditional joinery. Each door is carved in low relief with a round floral medallion and hinges outwards to reveal a spacious interior. The surrounding frame and scalloped apron are similarly decorated with dense carvings of trailing vines scrollwork and zig-zag borders.
