Upon discovering a weathered steel drum that had been warped to resemble the sleeve of a garment, artist Gordon Chandler was inspired to embark on a series of kimono sculptures formed from found metal scraps. With an eye to the aesthetic possibilities of this humble material, Chandler invests reclaimed steel with sculptural fluidity and a wry sense of form.

In this petite wall-mounted sculpture titled "Sketch Garment," Chandler assembles fragments from other projects to sketch out a colorful makeshift garment. The playful design gestures towards his large-scale kimono sculptures but incorporates a range of bright colors and curvilinear shapes. The artist's initials and date of creation have been stamped onto a small steel garment label secured to the collar.
