Petite Bronze Jar

This petite 19th-century bronze jar is reminiscent of the ritual bronzes used by China’s earliest rulers. Found in the tombs of nobility and royalty, these ancient bronze vessels were used for ritual food and drink offerings and were the precursors to many contemporary porcelain vase shapes. This miniature bronze jar takes reinterprets the traditional Hu vase form, which evolved into the modern baluster jar. The little jar has a narrow neck, a short footed base, and a rounded body fitted with three triangular loops.
