This polychromed wood figure from southeast Asia dates to the mid-19th century and depicts a male attendant or entertainer. Hand-carved by a skilled artisan, the wooden figure is dressed in a vest and cloth pants and wears a traditional pointed headdress. With an expressive, smiling face, he stands atop a rocky formation with a jaunty posture. Remnants of pigment suggest that the sculpture was once accented with vivid colors and decorative patterns.
