Provincial Rice Measure

This rustic container was made over a hundred years ago to measure and hold a dou of rice, an ancient Chinese measurement. It is handcrafted with thin finger joints, iron-finished edges, and a subtly arched handle. An unusual amount of care was taken by fully encasing the lip of the measure in iron to protect against damage. This measure has aged wonderfully, boasting a smooth, soft finish developed from the touch of hands over time.
