Crafted of elm with a dark lacquer finish, this small locking cabinet from the mid-19th century embodies the refined simplicity of Ming-dynasty furniture. Following the design of traditional sloping-stile cabinets, the petite chest features an overhung top, straight sides and full-length doors that open to reveal two interior shelves and two small drawers. Ideal today as a side table or nightstand, the lacquered cabinet is minimally decorated, accented only by beaded edging, darkened brass hardware and a low apron carved with water scrollwork.
