Curving spandrels, a stepped apron, and subtly splayed legs epitomize the simple grace of this 19th-century square stool, known as a feng deng. Handcrafted from Chinese elmwood, this object projects a proud, knowing stance and carries a wealth of tones and textures in its rich wood grain and inset hand-woven top. Originally used in a well-to-do, Shanxi-province home, it is elegant today as a seat or a side table.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
