The Tibetan followers of the cult of Amitayus, the Buddha of Eternal Life, believed that their devotion to this Buddha would prolong their lives. In this beautifully detailed Thangka, the central figure of Amitayus is rendered in a brilliant shade of red pigment & is shown cradling a jar filled with the elixir of immortality. This sacred Thangka retains its original silk brocade frame, is mounted on linen and framed in darkened walnut.
