The Chinese and Japanese silk techniques that combine to form this pair of contemporary pillows are fundamental to the formation of contemporary fashion aesthetics. Shibori is an ancient Japanese form of cloth dying and the basis of tie-dye and related techniques. The craftsperson would tie and pin fabric prior to dying to force the colors to run and soak in specific patterns. This rich coloration is balanced by the diaphanous nature of vintage Chinese qipao silk. Interwoven, the two vintage materials create a work of cozy art for any home.
