Hung on the wall of a Qing-dynasty home in northern China, this remarkably crafted hat rack provided the kind of elevated display that status-enhancing hats demanded. Beneath the central, compact mirror is an intricately carved rosewood panel of fruit-bearing trailing vines. Graceful hat stands fold out from the frame, joined by four swivel hooks at the bottom for additional hanging. Evocative of a past era, the hat rack elevates a foyer or entryway, providing an elegant rest stop for scarves, bags, or jackets.
