This incredible life-sized figure dates to the early 20th century and depicts a Southeast Asian female dancer. Hand-carved by a skilled artisan, the wooden dancer is dressed in traditional attire, with an elaborate draped skirt, sashes, and a pointed headdress. The mask on her face suggests she may be a performer of the Khon, or masked drama, a Thai classical dance originally performed for the royal court. Her posture conveys graceful movement - captured mid-step with her weight on her front foot, poised to jump into her next move. Highly textured, graceful and wonderful indoors and out.
