This incredible stone pedestal dates to the mid-19th century and likely originated as a stele monument or a segment of a large temple column. The square pedestal is carved in relief on all sides with Buddhist imagery in the Northern Wei style. A seated Buddha graces each side of the column, surrounded by seated disciples, monks, and bodhisattvas. The dense carvings have worn with time, but still display many fine details such as the graceful folds of their robes or the linework of their radiant halos.
