Incised with images of scholars, this 19th-century gourd-shaped brazier once warmed the hands of a nobleman or member of the literati. Filled with coal, the brazier took the chill off northern China’s cold winters. Made of brass that’s weathered to a rich patina, the brazier features a double handle and geometrically carved top.
