This petite keepsake box is a charming example of Japanese lacquer art, or urushi. The box began with a square wooden substrate, finished by layer upon layer of glossy black lacquer. In the classic style of gold-against-black, the exterior is decorated with two figures seated in an intricate indoor setting. Gently aged from years of use, this beautiful little box is full of character and makes for a lovely gift.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
