A charming example of provincial blue-and-white pottery, this petite lidded jar from the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644) is cloaked in a cool grey underglaze and decorated with expressive dark blue brushwork of abstract florals. The jar has a rounded body with high shoulders and a short footed base, topped by a domed lid with a simple knob and flared lip. The bluish-grey glaze shows its age beautifully, textured by a crackled finish and pitted wear.
