Shaped according to millennia-old prototypes fired in Bronze Age, this early 20th-century ceramic jar from northern China once stored wine and spirits made from rice and grains. Thrown on a wheel, the jar shows the subtle ribs associated with the process. Small loop handles complete its perfect proportions. Weathered by time, the glaze has rubbed off in spots, earning the jar a fantastic surface texture highly sought after by those who yearn for “wabi sabi”.
