This 19th-century document box once sat amidst the erudite treasures of a Qing-dynasty scholars' studio. The perfect size for a rolled-up scroll, the box would have been used to store and protect works of fine calligraphy and traditional landscape painting. The long box is wrapped in lacquered hide and affixed with drop handles at each end and a full moon brass lock plate. The dark, oxblood red of its lacquer finish has aged beautifully with time, marked with subtle imperfections and burnished to a smooth patina.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
