This charming painted chest is a wooden toolbox originally used to store spare nozzles and various tools on a turn-of-the-century American fire hose reel. While some fire hoses of this era were affixed to large, horse-drawn wagons, others were affixed to smaller, hand-drawn carts comprised of two large wheels, a hose reel and mounts for toolboxes and accessories. This antique fire brigade box is crafted of pine and oak with a simple hinged lid secured by a push button latch. The exterior is painted red with gold and black pinstripes and a no. 4 on either side. Beautifully worn from years of use, the vintage box has a textured finish with minor fading and an incredible patina.
