Formed by pounding flattened clay around a convex mold, this well-proportioned vessel is a water storage vessel known as a jidaga, created by women of the Bambara people of Mali. Although the vessel's small mouth is uncommon for a water jar, the body is divided by the distinct horizontal bands characteristic of Bambara pottery. The burnished terracotta surface is beautifully clouded by smoke patterns, created during the firing process by plunging the burning hot vessel into a pile of sawdust and rice chaff.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
