"Tiananmen Lion" by Ren Hui

This painting, like most of Ren Hui’s exquisite artworks, celebrates his subjects using a pointillist style that he calls “uncomplicated and honest.” The beautiful pattern of gold on a bright red field, featured here, is called "Tiananmen Lion." The artist uses a pure and deliberate approach by highlighting a polarizing place and moment in Chinese history using simple flourishes of marks, points, and dots.
