This early 20th-century ceramic garden stool deviates from the traditional drum form with its angular shape and latticed sides. The seat instead borrows design elements from the Ming dynasty feng deng, a wooden stool featuring a square top and a waisted apron. A luminous blue-green glaze pools and drips beautifully down the stool's sides for a monochrome finish to its intricate form. Traditionally used as a place to rest one’s feet, a stool like this is perfect as a garden seat or a small side table indoors or out.
