Painted Carrying Box

This early 20th century painted box was originally used as a portable container for personal travels or ceremonial outings. The lidded box has an oblong shape bound by two bands of twisted wire and a tall carved handle. Painted a bright red, this box has graphic presence as a storied decorative object.
