An homage to small ice cream parlors everywhere, "Floats" by Chicago artist Patrick Fitzgerald recreates a shop sign beckoning passerbys to come in for a sweet treat. The original sign belonged to Bonnie-Doon, a beloved drive-in restaurant in Mishawaka, IN since 1938 and the imaginary sponsor of Fitzgerald's companion piece "Neapolitan Car." Like all of Fitzgerald's works, the painting achieves a certain timelessness, resurrecting the past with iconic forms and weathered textures.

Chicago artist Patrick Fitzgerald refers to his body of work as his “Neighborhood of Infinity,” a borrowed term used literally to describe the bounty of materials and creative inspiration he found in the industrial landscapes of his youth. For the last decade, Fitzgerald has been mining his early experiences, re-envisioning the mechanical world of his childhood through the eye of an artist.
