Perfecting line and proportion, the simple design of this low square corner cabinet celebrates the restraint of classic Chinese furniture forms. Dated to the mid-19th century, the chest is crafted of elmwood and cloaked in layer upon layer of black lacquer. Traces of the original ornate gilt decoration adorns the cabinet front, likely depicting a lively scene of courtly life. Designed for general storage in the Qing-dynasty home, this chest is perfect as a side table or nightstand, filled with a collection of contemporary art books or antique tomes.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
