Slightly shorter than most upright Chinese cabinets, this red lacquer cabinet charms with its modest scale and perfect proportions. Dated to the mid-19th century, the cabinet is crafted of northern elmwood (yumu) and brushed on all sides with richly aged crackled lacquer. The interior is finished with black lacquer and includes two drawers, two shelves, and a deep lower compartment. The piece is minimally decorated, all emphasis placed instead on the brilliant cinnabar red color of the cabinet front. The low apron is carved with two sinuous dragons and a central peony blossom, a symbol of springtime, love, and affection. Offering ample storage and vibrant color, this two door cabinet is the perfect way to brighten up any space.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
