The front doors of this early 20th-century low coffer from Mongolia are delicately painted with flower arrangements and outlined by a muted, olive green frame. The left set of doors is painted with a bouquet of peonies, emblems of spring time and feminine beauty, and the right set bears a cluster of lotus flowers, emblems of summer and symbols of purity. Originally opening from the top, the cabinet has been reconfigured with doors outfitted with traditional hinges and brass teardrop pulls. The coffer's subdued lacquer finish has aged beautifully, adding rich character and color to the home.
